Toronto, ON, August 20, 2025ALUS is advancing its work to establish nature-based solutions on agricultural lands with renewed funding support from TD Bank Group (TD). This sixth phase of funding will support twelve ALUS communities across four provinces in equipping farmers and ranchers with the tools and knowledge they need to enhance, restore, create and maintain 530 acres of nature on marginal or ecologically sensitive agricultural lands.

“At ALUS, we work alongside farmers and ranchers to deliver nature-based solutions that restore ecosystems, build resilience, and strengthen rural communities,” says Jill Weaver, Director of Partnerships at ALUS. “Support from TD helps us expand this work across Canada, promoting biodiversity, advancing climate resilience, enhancing rural livelihoods, and ensuring our program is accessible to both English and French-speaking communities.”

ALUS is the only charitable organization that provides communities with a turn-key program designed to engage and support farmers and ranchers in agricultural stewardship at the community level. The program embeds decision-making authority with local farmers, ranchers and community leaders, ensuring projects are designed to work within local contexts to deliver outcomes that support local initiatives.

TD was the founding sponsor of ALUS’ corporate-facing nature-based solutions program and has played a critical role in helping ALUS scale its work and impact. Phase 6 of TD’s funding support for ALUS will support environmental stewardship in communities in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Québec. Québec is one of ALUS’ fastest-growing community hubs, and support from TD has been instrumental in helping ALUS grow its bilingual capacity, ensuring more farmers can access programming and support in the language of their choice.

“TD recognizes that shaping a sustainable future is a shared responsibility and that we can’t do it alone. That’s why, through the TD Ready Commitment, we’re proud to continue our support for ALUS and its mission to expand nature-based programming to support communities in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Québec,“ says Alicia Rose, AVP, Social Impact and Strategy Canada, Sustainability & Corporate Citizenship, TD Bank Group.

This renewed support reflects a shared commitment to contributing to tangible and positive on-the-ground change through community-led solutions. The nature-based projects farmers and ranchers undertake, such as restoring and enhancing wetlands and grasslands and planting trees and shrubs, have the potential to generate a suite of environmental co-benefits, like carbon sequestration, improved water quality, and enhanced wildlife habitat, that support more climate resilient communities for generations to come.

About ALUS

ALUS envisions a future where all farmers and ranchers produce ecosystem services from nature-based solutions alongside food and fibre to help solve the crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. Through its turn-key community-developed, farmer-delivered program, ALUS supports more than 360 community leaders across 42 ALUS communities in helping close to 2,200 farmers and ranchers build and actively manage 57,200+ acres of nature-based projects. These projects, like wetlands, grasslands and tree and shrub plantings, help capture carbon, keep lakes, rivers and streams clean, provide food and shelter for wildlife, and better prepare communities for extreme weather events like flood and drought.

Through ALUS Nature & Climate Solutions, businesses, governments and organizations invest in new acres of nature created on agricultural land to generate positive environmental, economic and social outcomes in the communities where they operate—one acre at a time.
