This position is contingent on receiving funding support from the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must fit the following criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized, self-motivated Social Media & Storytelling Coordinator to support ALUS’ national communications and marketing team. The successful applicant will develop content that highlights community-led stewardship projects delivered by farmers and ranchers across Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create engaging social media content (writing and basic graphic design) using ALUS brand guidelines and platforms such as Canva, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Support story gathering and community profiles by translating information from ALUS program coordinators and farmers into accessible, plain-language digital content that reflects ALUS’ community-led, farmer-delivered model.
  • Draft web content and assist with updates to ALUS.ca, including program spotlights, event promotions and news posts.
  • Organize and maintain digital assets (photos, videos, graphics) and assist with collecting materials for future communications projects.
  • Contribute to reporting on social media and website metrics, helping evaluate audience engagement and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with communications and partnerships team members to support digital campaigns related to events, community programs, announcements and storytelling initiatives.
  • Possible Travel to ALUS communities in Canada to collect assets to support creating engaging social media content.

Through mentorship, training, and hands-on work, the coordinator will gain experience in digital communications, community storytelling, national program promotion, and environmental communications.

Skills, Attributes and Experience

  • The position requires strong written English skills. Strong French language skills are considered an asset, but not a requirement. The role offers exposure to French-language content and collaboration with bilingual staff, providing opportunities to further develop bilingual communications skills.
  • Experience and familiarity with creating content for social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Experience working with Canva
  • Experience organizing and maintaining digital assets. Familiarity with Digital Asset Management systems, particularly MediaValet is considered an asset.
  • Up to date on social media trends, and passionate about digital storytelling
  • Post-secondary studies in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, environmental studies, agriculture, or a related field are considered an asset, but not required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, including overnight stays, to ALUS’ community programs to gather content. Travel costs will be reimbursed.

Working Environment and Compensation

  • You will report to and work collaboratively with ALUS’ Senior Manager of Communications.
  • Normal working hours are Monday to Friday; 35 hours per week.
  • You will be paid at an hourly rate of $22.50/hour.
  • ALUS Canada does not have a centralized office space; The person will work from a home office, which may be located anywhere in Canada with reliable access to high-speed internet and a safe, ergonomic, and private workspace. 
  • Travel to various communities across Alberta may be required to attend field visits, events, and in-person team meetings.
  • Possible opportunity to attend ALUS’ National Field Conference in Steinbach MB in July.
