ALUS offers the only turnkey, community-based program in Canada that provides long-term financial and technical support to farmers and ranchers for the ongoing stewardship of their projects. ALUS relies on governments, corporations and philanthropic foundations to invest in ALUS Nature & Climate Solutions to generate positive environmental, economic and social outcomes for people and communities.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Partnerships, the Manager of Corporate Partnerships and Business Development will help identify, attract and engage corporate sector sponsors and investors and support market development activities related to ALUS Nature & Climate Solutions—ALUS’ market-facing suite of investment, sponsorship and donor solutions. The Manager will foster and leverage new and existing business relationships, managing prospects through all stages of the development cycle.
This position is ideal if you are an individual with a background in sales, marketing or fundraising, with a good understanding of current trends in corporate sustainability, nature-related financial disclosures, the ESG (environment, social, governance) landscape and business principles.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development, Fundraising, Market Research and Execution
- Partnership Building: Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, and nurture enduring corporate investment partnerships. Maintain and strengthen long-term relationships with both new and existing partners.
- Pitch Development: Craft compelling pitch proposals tailored to the needs of corporate prospects, including C-Suite executives.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with key team members to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of reporting, sponsorship agreements, and recognition plans.
- Industry Awareness: Keep abreast of corporate sustainability and ESG trends, and adjust engagement strategies and tactics as necessary.
- Data Management: Ensure the accurate and up-to-date maintenance of prospect and opportunity records in Salesforce.
- Market Research: Conduct market research to identify potential opportunities and make informed recommendations on how to align the product offering with market demand.
- Marketing: Play an active role in implementing the ALUS Nature & Climate Solutions marketing plan.
Skills, Attributes and Experience
- Academic Background: A degree from a recognized university or equivalent, with a specialization in business, sales, marketing, fundraising, or a related field.
- Sales Expertise: Proven experience in sales, including a confident approach to negotiation and closing deals.
- Strategic Mindset: An individual who demonstrates an in-depth comprehension of the intersection of business and sustainability.
- Networking Prowess: Robust networking and partnering skills backed by a proven track record of fostering effective business relationships.
- Project Management: Exceptional organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet requirements and deadlines. High attention to detail, a commitment to accuracy, and confidence in managing a budget.
- Proposal Writing: Experience in writing funding proposals, developing and delivering pitch decks, and reporting on results.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with Salesforce or similar customer relationship management (CRM) or fundraising tools, along with Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Communication Skills: Remarkable presentation, relationship-building, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Interpersonal Skills: Effective and professional interpersonal skills, with the confidence to exercise independent judgment and take initiative.
- Core Values: An inherent demonstration of ALUS core values.
- Language Skills: Bilingualism in English and French is considered a major asset.
- Environmental Knowledge: Familiarity with ecosystem services, natural infrastructure, and nature restoration is beneficial, but an innate curiosity and a growth mindset are essential.
Working Environment and Compensation
- Normal working hours are Monday to Friday; 35 hours per week, remote.
- Infrequent evening or weekend work as well as occasional travel required to be on the field or for in-person team meetings.
- ALUS Canada does not have a centralized office space; The person will be required to work from a safe, ergonomic and private home office with reliable access to high-speed Internet, and may be located anywhere in Canada.
