The third and final annual report on Bruce Power’s New Acre Nature Investment highlights the carbon sequestration outcomes and environmental benefits produced by nature-based agricultural projects in Bruce and Grey counties.
TORONTO, ON / BRUCE & GREY COUNTIES, May 30, 2025 — In partnership with ALUS and the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII), Bruce Power has successfully completed a three-year investment in nature-based climate solutions in Grey and Bruce Counties. The initiative, funded by Bruce Power’s Carbon Offset Coalition, supported 63 local ALUS participants in establishing 600 acres of nature-based projects and planting 94,680 trees and shrubs, delivering measurable environmental and social benefits to the region.
The final year of the program saw 27 farmers implement 200 acres of projects, including tree and shrub plantings, grasslands, freshwater restoration, and modified agricultural practices. These projects are projected to sequester 2,551 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) over five years. Across all three years, the total estimated carbon sequestration is 6,577 tCO₂e.
“This partnership with ALUS and NII has enabled Bruce Power to support meaningful climate action while strengthening our ties to the communities where we operate,” said Danielle LaCroix, Senior Director, Environment, Sustainability & Net Zero at Bruce Power. “These projects not only support carbon sequestration but also enhance biodiversity, improve water quality, and build climate resilience.”
Bruce Power, Canada’s only private-sector nuclear generator, is committed to achieving net-zero across site operations by 2027. The company’s investment in ALUS’ New Acre™ Nature Investments program is a key component of its broader sustainability strategy.
With the support of Bruce Power, ALUS launched innovative technology pilots to enhance environmental monitoring and carbon quantification. In 2025, ALUS’ Environmental Benefits CO₂ Quantification Methodology received third-party validation, marking a significant milestone in the development of credible, science-based carbon credits. Bruce Power is expected to receive its first verified carbon credits from ALUS by the end of 2025.
“Bruce Power’s leadership has been instrumental in helping ALUS advance a robust carbon credit methodology rooted in real-world agricultural practices,” said Jordan Sinclair, CEO of ALUS. “Together, we’ve demonstrated how businesses and farmers can collaborate to deliver climate solutions that benefit both people and the planet.”
The initiative also fostered strong community engagement, with 20 local partnerships and over 2,740 people participating in more than 35 local events.
Bruce Power and NII’s investment has delivered meaningful benefits to local farmers and generated environmental outcomes for Grey and Bruce Counties, strengthening the foundation for long-term environmental and agricultural resilience in the region.
ALUS Grey-Bruce operates within the traditional territories of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation (Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation).

About ALUS
ALUS envisions a future where all farmers and ranchers produce ecosystem services from nature-based solutions alongside food and fibre to help solve the crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. Through its turn-key farmer-led, community-delivered program, ALUS supports more than 390 community leaders across 41 ALUS communities in helping over 2,100 farmers and ranchers build and actively manage 57,000+ acres of nature-based projects. These projects, like wetlands, grasslands and tree and shrub plantings, help capture carbon, keep lakes, rivers and streams clean, provide food and shelter for wildlife, and better prepare communities for extreme weather events like flood and drought.
ALUS also helps businesses, governments and organizations invest in new acres of nature created on agricultural land to generate positive environmental, economic and social outcomes in the communities where they operate—one acre at a time.
