The 2024-25 grant from TD marks the fifth year of funding the Bank has provided to ALUS and will support adding another 115 new acres of nature to the working landscape in Manitoba, Ontario and Québec.
Toronto, ON, December 17, 2024 – Supported by TD, through its corporate citizenship platform, the TD Ready Commitment, ALUS has received a $150,000 grant to help farmers and ranchers in creating 115 new acres of nature on the working landscape. The 2024-25 grant marks the fifth phase of funding the Bank has committed to ALUS. TD was the official launch sponsor of New Acre, ALUS’ acre-based nature and climate solution.
“ALUS is grateful to receive a fifth round of funding from TD,” says Jill Weaver, Director of Partnerships at ALUS. “ALUS envisions a world where all farmers and ranchers produce ecosystem services from nature-based projects on their lands. As a charitable organization, ALUS relies on support from our generous donors, sponsors and grantors to add more nature to the working landscape.”
To date, TD has granted $720,000 to ALUS, with the latest round of funding dedicated to ALUS communities in Manitoba, Ontario and Québec. This grant has helped ALUS farmers and ranchers in establishing and stewarding over 800 acres (an area roughly equal to the Toronto Islands) of nature-based projects. Organizations like the CSA Group, International Institute for Sustainable Development, and the United Nations estimate that nature-based projects have the potential to help reduce flood and drought risk, mitigate the effects of climate change, create wildlife habitat to enhance biodiversity and support species at risk, and improve water quality and quantity.
“TD is proud to continue providing financial support to ALUS, which will help grow ALUS communities in Manitoba, Ontario, and Québec. Through the TD Ready Commitment, we aspire to support community organizations that are working toward supporting change and nurturing progress from coast to coast to coast,” says Joshua Cayer, Manager, Philanthropy, Sustainability & Corporate Citizenship, TD Bank Group.
ALUS is the only charitable organization operating in Canada and the United States that offers a turnkey, community-developed, farmer-delivered agri-environmental program designed to provide shared value to farmers, communities and investors through its suite of Nature and Climate Solutions. Currently, ALUS supports more than 360 community leaders across 39 ALUS communities in helping over 1,700 farmers and ranchers build and actively manage more than 52,000 acres of nature-based projects on marginal farmland in Canada.
About ALUS
ALUS envisions a future where all farmers and ranchers produce ecosystem services from nature-based solutions alongside food and fibre to help solve the crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. Through its turn-key community-developed, farmer-delivered program, ALUS supports more than 360 community leaders across 39 ALUS communities in helping over 1,700 farmers and ranchers build and actively manage 52,000+ acres of nature-based projects. These projects, like wetlands, grasslands and tree and shrub plantings, help capture carbon, keep lakes, rivers and streams clean, provide food and shelter for wildlife, and better prepare communities for extreme weather events like flood and drought.
ALUS also helps businesses, governments and organizations invest in new acres of nature created on agricultural land to generate positive environmental, economic and social outcomes in the communities where they operate—one acre at a time.
