ALUS Announces $30,000 Sponsorship from Alberta Professional Outfitters Society (APOS) to enhance wildlife habitat in Alberta.
For over a decade, members of APOS have contributed to the Wildlife Management Fund (WMF) through their annual renewal fees to support conservation and stewardship efforts in Alberta. This year’s funding to ALUS is focused on establishing projects in northern, east central, and southern Alberta. These projects aim to enhance and preserve habitats for big game and waterfowl, and establish wildlife corridors for improved landscape connectivity, benefitting species such as moose, elk, deer, grouse, and migratory waterfowl.
Across Alberta, the ALUS program is delivered in 17 communities, with more than 550 farming and ranching participants who are managing over 4,000 acres of projects that contribute to cleaner water, cleaner air and more wildlife habitat. Many habitats fostered by ALUS participants, such as prairie grasslands and wetlands, are critical for many of Alberta’s most beloved species.
Since 2008, APOS’ WMF has contributed over $2 million to wildlife stewardship and conservation in Alberta. Through the WMF, APOS supports projects that sustain and enhance wildlife populations and their habitats, contribute to the long-term health and well-being of wildlife in Alberta, and increase the efficiency of wildlife conservation efforts.
The ALUS program moves beyond conservation to the creation of nature on the rural landscape. ALUS participants support valuable ecosystems, such as wetlands, native prairie, and reforestation. Each of these types of habitats is critical to sustaining the complex webs of wildlife in Alberta.
About APOS
In 1997, the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society (APOS) was established as a delegated administrative organization (DAO) for the Government of Alberta. APOS’ delegated responsibilities include licensing the province’s guides and professional outfitters, managing the distribution of big game allocations and waterfowl privileges, and holding members accountable to a Code of Ethics. We provide members with access to liability insurance, a voice within government, and advocacy on key issues.
About ALUS
ALUS is a charitable organization that envisions a future where all farmers and ranchers produce ecosystem services from nature-based solutions alongside food and fibre to help solve the crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. Through its turn-key farmer-led, community-delivered program, ALUS supports more than 430 community leaders across 39 ALUS communities in helping over 1,700 farmers and ranchers build and actively manage 52,000+ acres of nature-based projects. These projects, like wetlands, grasslands and tree and shrub plantings, help capture carbon, keep lakes, rivers and streams clean, provide food and shelter for wildlife, and better prepare communities for extreme weather events like flood and drought.
ALUS helps governments, businesses and philanthropic foundations invest in Nature & Climate Solutions on agricultural land to generate positive environmental, economic and social outcomes in the communities where they operate—one acre at a time.
