ALUS Canada representatives Christine Campbell (Hub Manager, Western Canada) and Howie Bjorge (ALUS Canada Agrologist) joined Reeve Paula Law in Lacombe County’s offices today for a ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations.

“The ALUS Lacombe County program will help deliver ALUS Canada’s vision of sustaining agriculture, wildlife and natural spaces for all Canadians, one acre at a time,” said Campbell.

ALUS Canada has invested nearly $674,000 in Alberta since 2010, allowing ALUS to grow to its current total of eleven ALUS communities in the province, with more than 70 farmers and ranchers now devoting more than 3,600 acres to producing ecosystem services for all Albertans.

“The ALUS Lacombe County Program will provide financial and technical support to Lacombe County’s agricultural producers and landowners, in return for the establishment and active management of ALUS projects on their lands,” said Dion Burlock, Lacombe County Agricultural Fieldman.

Local producers Ian Clark, Dean Hjelte, Jason Lenz, Marilyn Sharp and Barb Shepherd will form ALUS Lacombe County’s first Partnership Advisory Committee (PAC), to oversee the program.
