Image de l\u2019observatoire terrestre de la NASA, par Joshua Stevens, \u00e0 partir de donn\u00e9es Landsat de l\u2019U.S. Geological Survey.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Gr\u00e2ce au financement de\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ALUSCanada\/status\/1384541853983387648\">Tech for Nature de RBC<\/a>, ALUS travaillera avec le Dr Wanhong Yang de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Guelph afin de tirer parti d\u2019un outil de mod\u00e9lisation sophistiqu\u00e9 et fabriqu\u00e9 au Canada, IMWEBs, pour soutenir des projets locaux qui construisent une infrastructure bas\u00e9e sur la nature dans le bassin du lac \u00c9ri\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Ces projets permettront de lutter contre les\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greatlakes.org\/campaigns\/lake-erie-algae-blooms\/\">efflorescences algales nuisibles\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0dans le lac \u00c9ri\u00e9. On estime qu\u2019au cours des 30 prochaines ann\u00e9es, celles-ci causeront des dommages environnementaux et \u00e9conomiques de 6 milliards de dollars dans les secteurs des p\u00eacheries commerciales, du traitement de l\u2019eau et du tourisme, et ce, au Canada seulement. L\u2019infrastructure naturelle permettra \u00e9galement d\u2019accro\u00eetre la r\u00e9silience au changement climatique, qui menace d\u2019augmenter le ruissellement des nutriments, lesquels alimentent les efflorescences algales nuisibles dans le lac \u00c9ri\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Nous sommes extr\u00eamement reconnaissants \u00e0 RBC pour son soutien \u00e0 ce projet fondamental\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Lara Ellis, premi\u00e8re vice-pr\u00e9sidente des politiques et des partenariats pour ALUS. \u00ab\u00a0L\u2019outil de mod\u00e9lisation IMWEBs du Dr Wanhong Yang est un syst\u00e8me \u00e9prouv\u00e9 d\u2019une valeur consid\u00e9rable, et nous sommes ravis de le mettre \u00e0 profit pour soutenir la sant\u00e9 du lac \u00c9ri\u00e9.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>IMWEBs\u00a0<em>(Integrated Modelling for Watershed Evaluation of BMPs<\/em>) est le seul syst\u00e8me au Canada qui quantifie les services \u00e9cosyst\u00e9miques (s\u00e9questration du carbone, qualit\u00e9\/quantit\u00e9 d\u2019eau, biodiversit\u00e9) fournis par la restauration de la nature sur le terrain, au niveau d\u2019un champ, d\u2019une ferme, d\u2019un bassin versant ou d\u2019une r\u00e9gion. Le mod\u00e8le IMWEBs int\u00e8gre les donn\u00e9es environnementales et les caract\u00e9ristiques des projets afin de pr\u00e9dire leurs r\u00e9sultats, notamment l\u2019am\u00e9lioration de la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019eau, l\u2019att\u00e9nuation des inondations et des s\u00e9cheresses, la r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre et la r\u00e9tention des nutriments.<\/p>\n<p>Avec le soutien de la RBC, le projet pilote d\u2019ALUS d\u00e9ploiera IMWEBs dans trois sous-bassins hydrographiques du lac \u00c9ri\u00e9 (Kettle Creek, Catfish Creek, Big Otter Creek) afin de quantifier et d\u2019aider \u00e0 prioriser les projets d\u2019intendance ALUS susceptibles de procurer les plus grands avantages.
