Propri\u00e9taire et exploitant de\u00a0Movald\u00a0Ranches,\u00a0<\/span>Duane\u00a0Movald<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/a>a\u00a0toujours\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9 un ardent d\u00e9fenseur du programme ALUS, de ses\u00a0avantages pour les agriculteurs et les \u00e9leveurs\u00a0et de\u00a0ses\u00a0succ\u00e8s\u00a0en mati\u00e8re d’environnement, et ce\u00a0depuis son lancement dans le comt\u00e9 de Brazeau en 2016.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u202fLe programme ALUS est vraiment unique en son genre. Les agriculteurs re\u00e7oivent une reconnaissance pour le travail environnemental qu’ils\u00a0accomplissent, un travail\u00a0qui\u00a0profite\u00a0\u00e0 l’ensemble de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9\u202f\u00bb,\u00a0dit\u00a0Duane.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Duane et sa famille ont \u00e9t\u00e9 parmi les premiers \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser un projet avec ALUS Brazeau. Quelques ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9but de leur projet de gestion riveraine ALUS, on constate des changements notables sur les terres concern\u00e9es par le projet. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En effet, de\u00a0nouveaux arbres sont\u00a0apparus le long des berges du cours d’eau, berges qui \u00e9taient auparavant affaiss\u00e9es et sans v\u00e9g\u00e9tation. Ces arbres aident \u00e0\u00a0stabiliser les\u00a0rives, emp\u00eachant l’\u00e9rosion de la\u00a0couche arable, qui peut polluer l’eau et diminuer la terre. Les berges\u00a0ainsi\u00a0stabilis\u00e9es\u00a0et le syst\u00e8me racinaire des arbres contribuent \u00e9galement \u00e0 att\u00e9nuer l’impact des\u00a0inondations.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Duane recourt\u00a0\u00e0 la zone de ce projet\u00a0comme\u00a0cellule de p\u00e2turage\u00a0de fa\u00e7on sporadique et seulement\u00a0lorsque cela est n\u00e9cessaire. Cette\u00a0utilisation\u00a0permet \u00e0 une plus grande diversit\u00e9 d’esp\u00e8ces v\u00e9g\u00e9tales de se d\u00e9velopper et de pousser\u00a0sur le terrain. Farmers receive acknowledgement for the environmental work that they are doing, work\u00a0that benefits the greater good of all society,\"\u00a0said\u00a0Movald.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\n\n\u00a0<\/span>Duane and his family were among the first to\u00a0complete\u00a0a project with\u00a0ALUS Brazeau.\u00a0Now a\u00a0few years into their\u00a0ALUS riparian management project,\u00a0there are\u00a0noticeable changes to\u00a0the land\u00a0encompassed by the project.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\n\n\u00a0<\/span>New tree saplings\u00a0have emerged along the bank of the watercourse, banks that were previously slumping and without vegetation. These trees help\u00a0stabilize\u00a0the banks, preventing\u00a0topsoil\u00a0erosion, which can foul the water and diminish the land. The stabilized banks\u00a0and the root system of the trees also\u00a0helps mitigate the impacts of\u00a0flood.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\n\n\u00a0<\/span>The\u00a0Movalds\u00a0now utilize that project area as a pasture cell, which only\u00a0sees\u00a0light grazing\u00a0when necessary.\u00a0This\u00a0usage\u00a0enables a greater diversity of\u00a0plant species to develop and grow\u00a0on the land. These\u00a0plants\u00a0help mitigate waterflow, capture sediment and provide cleaner water downstream.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\n\n\u00a0<\/span>\"We are entering a pivotal time in history where the importance of green infrastructure will begin to be recognized as a huge part of the bigger overall picture, and it is an amazing thing to be able to play a role in that,\"\u00a0said Duane.<\/span>\n\n[caption id=\"attachment_10313\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"1500\"]\"Duane Duane stands in front of the wetland he\u2019s worked with ALUS to keep healthy and functional. These ecosystem projects\u00a0complement one another, providing an enhanced capability for critical wildlife habitat, preventing erosion and filtering surface and ground water.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\n\n\u201cWe are grateful for our ALUS community and their support for the stewardship projects on our farm.
