ALUS Peterborough
Where Agriculture and Nature Meet
OFAH logo

The ALUS program came to the Peterborough region in 2017, as a partnership between ALUS and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH).

In the Peterborough region, ALUS aims to establish acres of native prairie, pollinator habitat, multi-row shelterbelts, enhanced and expanded riparian areas, watering systems, nesting structures, multi-row shelterbelts, and fencing around waterbodies, as well as to create, restore or enhance existing wetlands. The ALUS Peterborough team works with farmers to help identify good stewardship opportunities on their lands and supports them through the process of ALUS project approval and implementation.

Across Canada, the ALUS program works with farmers and ranchers to identify select parcels of environmentally sensitive, marginal land that could be stewarded differently to produce ecosystem services, such as cleaner air, cleaner water and increased biodiversity, for the benefit of the community at large. ALUS provides all participants with annual, per-acre payments for the maintenance and management of ALUS projects on their land.

ALUS Peterborough is currently seeking local agricultural producers as well as Partnership Advisory Committee members who wish to participate in the program. For more information on how to become involved in ALUS Peterborough, please contact the ALUS Peterborough Program Coordinator, Kate Powell.
